Pete Lewis Psychotherapy is more about the journey, rather than the destination. Much of what we do is based on the idea or word peregrinatio. Peregrinatio – the journey (/pe.re.ɡriːˈnaː.ti.oː/, [pɛ.rɛ.ɡriːˈnaː.ti.oː]) is Latin, meaning to take a pilgrimage, to wander or journey. It is an old unique Celtic term and image for being on a journey of the soul. Such journeys usually require leaving behind everything familiar and comfortable and embarking on a journey of discovery. Those Celts who sought a deeper understanding of themselves often allied themselves to an anam cara, literally a soul-friend, somebody who was an experienced mentor, sponsor and guide, all in one.
That’s exactly what we do here, we journey together to find new ways of being.
What this journey looks like will be different for each person, and so we adapt the style and method of therapy according to what makes you feel most comfortable and what works best for you. All therapists are trained in different techniques across a number of therapy modalities offering clients a wide range of therapeutic options.
We start with the belief that people are free, and with this freedom comes the ability to make choices in life. Sometimes our choices cause us to get stuck and we need a little support along the way. That’s where our relationship (anam cara) and the journey (peregrinatio) begins. We work together to improve your sense of self-awareness and mindfulness.
During our first meeting we can discuss and tailor what approach (journey) will work best for you. You decide whether our services will work for you. We offer therapy in all areas of life, specialising in men’s counselling, youth & young adult development, couples & family therapy, career choice, meaning and purpose.
