Psychotherapy is a form of therapy that places emphasis on the relationship between you, the client and therapist. It is a talk-based therapy (lots of talking) where importance is placed on the human condition as a whole, exploring the complexities of living life through the lenses of this client and therapist relationship.
There are many forms of therapy talk and we can adapt the style of therapy according to your needs. Psychotherapy is based on collaboration between you and your therapist, the better the relationship the more successful therapy will be. You need to feel comfortable with your therapist. Psychotherapy is designed to help you fix yourself, your therapist can’t fix you. Our therapists have trained for many years in the art of listening and will form an alliance with you that helps brings about change.
“Give a man a fish; you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish; you feed him for a lifetime.”
Chinese Proverb
Psychotherapy works, though it doesn’t always make you feel better (well - not straight away). The journey may be uncomfortable, at times you may feel better and other times worse, yet it is these moments of pain and discomfort that help to bring on the desired change.
(There are many similarities between psychotherapy and counselling and often both terms are used interchangeably. See Counselling section for a comparison between each).
